When people in Russia wish to describe a false report that demonstrates the ignorance of the one who is speaking, they use the expression: «a spreading cranberry». D. N. Ushakov’s Explanatory Dictionary of Russian Language states that this expression “came from a description of Russia by a superficial French author, in which he wrote that he sat under the shadow of majestic cranberry”. Here are several examples. I will not speak about the confusion during these events, or about mistakes made in names, surnames, or addresses of the victims. Today I wish to talk about something else: about unscrupulous journalists. Extraordinary events give rise to a mass of rumors. One of such event was the seizure of hostages in the theatrical center on Dubrovka in October of 2002. Comments (5) | Views: 7786 | E-mail |

GTRK «Voronezh» An exhibition of films on that 21st-century disease — terrorism — took place in the building housing the local branch of the actor's union, or 'House of Actors'. The spectators saw films on the apartment blasts on the Kashirsk highway, and on the tragedy at 'Nord-Ost'. Voronezh was touched by these terrible events — the bloody hands of the terrorists reached even here. We also lived through that cold 'northeast' wind, but not at the theatrical center at Dubrovka, but in the nearby PTU (polytechnic university). During the act of terror more there were more people there than in the theater. For three days relatives of the hostages remained at the PTU and forever afterwards were joined together in tragedy. Officially they have banded together in order to help those affected by the terrorist attacks on Beslan, Moscow, Voronezh, and New York, to get on with lives. By Mikhail Trepashkin 27.03.2007 CHЕCHЕNPRЕSS Only someone with Down’s syndrome and brain syphilis could declare that I had divulged information that was a state secret of the Russian Federation. Further, they hold forth that I was guilty of betraying the Motherland, of treason. I am accused of a crime, in that two months before the seizure of hostages at Dubrovka I warned the FSB via a former colonel of the FSB’s anti-crime unit, V. V. Shebalin, that acts of terror were being prepared in Moscow! Comments (1) | Views: 6098 | E-mail |
